I have long sought a term that captures what I do, one that distinguishes my work from that of teachers, sports coaches, and seasoned players who mistakenly believe they do what I do. Over the years, I have had many conversations with people who want me to seamlessly align with their perfected plan.
When I resist, they feel controlled or disrespected. I then tend to withdraw, because I don't want them to feel this way. But we both lose out from this. Why we are opening up again
Some players enjoy playing basketball to prove who the best player is, and like arguing over fouls. This has never been my motivation for playing. My aim has always been to connect. This is why I ran my own sessions, but all it takes is one or two players to turn up determined to play ego basketball, and I would lose the focus on connection, until I proved we are the better players.
