Those fleeting moments of uncoachable inspiration are connections that create something greater than the sum of the parts, a phenomenon known as Gestalt.
Players get more Gestalt by putting all attention on the dynamic connections between all parts. Looking for opportunities to offer previously unseen alternatives as someone’s options begin to dwindle. And if nothing appears, look for something else.
Gestalt becomes less frequent when metrics shift players' focus to the parts. They lose sight of how all the parts connect. They overthink the execution of individual parts. The resulting poor decision-making drops performance below the sum of the parts.
