Jon Thorne will give a short talk on why we pin things down: not as an end in itself, but so we can relate to them. It is easy to become trapped in the pinning-down process and lose sight of that purpose. Through games of movement, we will explore the skills of relation.

About the event

I hope you are well.

We pin things down not as an end in itself, but so we can relate to them. It is easy to get trapped in the pinning-down process and lose sight of that purpose. That can drive anxiety when things move in relation to each other. It may seem sensible to spend more time pinning everything down further, but it isn't. It can intensify the feeling of being out of control. Burnout, fragmentation, and anxiety follow because nothing can be pinned down with absolute certainty; everything is always moving in relation to everything else. Why can I train the skills of relation? Because the process of pinning things down makes it harder for me to relate: I see only how everything relates.
