The balance wins.
The best teams in football, rugby, netball, and basketball show this balance. Elite athletes display what they can do individually while learning to relate as a whole. The team that holds that balance wins — in any sport and in life. That is why relational awareness is a life skill.

Hello, I am Jon Thorne, and in the 1990s, while working as a business analyst, I explored how we could collaborate online by separating functional connectivity from face-to-face interaction. Later, I focused on training the relational aspects of face-to-face interaction for people who could connect only functionally. To bring greater attention to relational awareness, I wrote a book and created LifeSkills21.club.
My book is free and can be read online.
Many believe that individual functions must be mastered before considering how they relate as a whole. As my book shows, putting function first dulls relational awareness — to the point that the whole will keep fragmenting. Functional training and relational-awareness training are distinct and can both go wrong at the same time, so they should be trained separately and in parallel.

We play basketball to think about how we relate to our surroundings—not simply sprint up and down, executing conventional functions without awareness of what is happening around us. It works for all abilities, is mixed, and is for ages 16+ to 70+
