We make those fleeting moments of uncoachable inspiration - happen more often
Those fleeting moments of uncoachable inspiration are connections that create something greater than the sum of the parts, a phenomenon known as Gestalt.
Players get more Gestalt by putting all attention on the dynamic connections between all parts. Waiting for opportunities to offer previously unseen alternatives as someone’s options begin to dwindle. And if nothing appears, look for something else.
Metrics should be reserved for coaches to set problems for players to solve using their Gestalt. When metrics shift players' focus to parts, decision-making becomes poor: Players overthink the execution of individual parts and lose sight of how all the parts connect. Performance drops below the sum of the parts.

It's like painting a picture - the more colours and shades we understand and use, the richer and more vibrant our artwork becomes. Similarly, the more we understand the interconnectedness of play, the more harmonious our flow becomes. It's all about recognizing patterns. We do something, pause, see what happened, and respond. We keep going until something we could not have known before appears—a Wow moment. The outcome of flow is Wow. This understanding can help us navigate life more smoothly and creatively.
SkillsofWow.org is the governing body for those who coach the skills of Wow.
